“Wagara” are traditional Japanese patterns. They are historic designs, each with a specific meaning, originally created for decorating traditional Japanese garments – kimono and yakata.  The original pattern date back to the 8th century Heian period of Japan, and are largely inspired by nature.

These tenugui's wagara meanings are;

Blue tenugui - Seigaiha (blue ocean waves)

In Japan, the Seigaiha pattern symbolizes a desire for continued peaceful living and good luck. Its direct translation is "Blue Ocean Waves". This pattern name has origins in an ancient Japanese court dance called Seigaiha. The dancers would wear costumes with this pattern.

Yellow tenugui - Yuzu (Japanese citrus)

Yuzu is a Japanese citrus fruit which looks like a bumpy lemon. The yuzu tree grows their branches up high to the sky and its trunk is thick. Because of that yuzu symbolizes longevity as well as luck with money.
