Care instruction
Can I wash my vintage kimono garments?
We do not recommend washing any silk kimono garments at home. Silk kimono fabrics are not made for being washed originally as silk is very delicate and could get fragile when they are wet.
However, you can hand wash cotton kimono fabric garments with cold water and normal washing detergent.
We recommend that you take any garments made with silk kimono fabric to a professional dry cleaning.
How can I take care of my vintage kimono garments at home?
You don’t have to take them to a dry cleaning every time you wear them. You simply hang them outside in a breeze, or in a shaded area which gets air circulation for a couple days. Silk has a self-purifying power (yes, it’s very surprising!) so you don’t have to worry too much about cleaning them.
If you have a steamer, that works very well for cleaning most of vintage silk kimono garments. You can set it as middle to high steam but make sure a steamer doesn’t make water spots onto your garments. Hang them and dry completely before putting them back to your wardrobe.
