Vintage Oshima tsumugi kimono silk top

Beautiful Oshima tsumugi kimono is made into a lovely top.

The Oshima Tsumugi silk is meticulously hand-woven through a process with more than thirty steps. The beauty of the dye and weave place pongee at the top of all silk fabrics, and one of the most sought after materials for kimonos.
The mud dyeing method encompassing the use of the Techi Tree (yeddo hawthorn), unique to Oshima pongee, has been in use since around the middle of the 7th Century, during which time it was developed from ancient methods, making it the oldest traditional cloth dyeing method in use in Japan.

Hena Hena's creations are upcycled with vintage silk kimonos which are imported from Japan and they are carefully unpicked by myself. I mainly use kimonos from 1950s and before. Because of their age of fabrics there could be some flaws like small marks, pinholes, smells, colour fade etc. but they have incredibly graceful taste that only vintage kimonos have. I hope you enjoy and love the beauty of vintage kimono silks including their histories to be embraced.
