Vintage kimono silk top
This top is made from a beautiful silk kimono with Indigo dyed pattern. This type of silk is called Chirimen, crepe in English and is one of the traditional Japanese textiles. It has a bumpy surface which gives the silk fabric a special lustre, depth, and unique suppleness. The best thing is that it hardly gets wrinkled!
I will tell you a bit about Japanese indigo.
Japanese indigo dye, known as aizome, is a traditional, sustainable natural dye process using Persicaria tinctoria plants, fermented into a composted dye called sukumo. Popularized during the Edo period (1603-1868), this "Japan Blue" technique involves repeated dipping and oxidation, offering antimicrobial properties, durability, and a deep, complex hue that synthetic dyes cannot replicate.

Dear customers,
Hena Hena's creations are upcycled with vintage silk kimonos which are imported from Japan and they are carefully unpicked by myself. I mainly use kimonos from 1980s and before. Because of their age of fabrics there could be some flaws like small marks, pinholes, colour fade, old smell etc. but they have incredibly graceful taste that only vintage kimonos have. I hope you enjoy and love the beauty of vintage kimono silks including their histories to be embraced.
Thank you for supporting my small handmade business.
